4 Recommended Parks for First-Time Han River Picnics

There are 12 Han River parks across Seoul. Here are the 4 most popular ones for picnics:

Yeouido Hangang Park

During cherry blossom season, it’s even better when combined with a visit to Yunjung-ro.

📍 330 Yeouidong-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
🚇 5-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yeouinaru Station (Line 5)

Banpo Hangang Park

📍 40 Sinbanpo-ro 11-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul
🚇 10-minute walk from Express Bus Terminal Station (Line 3, Exit 8-1) / 7-minute walk from Sapyeong Station (Line 9, Exit 3)

Picnic Mat Rentals and Food Delivery

No need to worry if you didn’t bring a mat. You can rent one for a small fee at convenience stores or unmanned rental stations inside the park. Yeouido and Ttukseom also operate picnic mat rental services.

On sunny days, bringing a mini parasol or shade tent will make your experience much more comfortable. Once you’ve secured a spot, start ordering food right away.

Each park has designated delivery zones, and if you enter the delivery zone number in the address field, riders will bring the food directly inside the park.

Both Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats are available, and you can order anything from chicken and pizza to jokbal.

💡 TIP: Glass bottles are not allowed on grass areas. Delivery is busiest between 12 PM and 3 PM on weekends, so it’s recommended to order as soon as you find a spot.

Biking and Han River Ramen

If you don’t want to just sit on a mat, try biking. The Han River bike path is one of the best riding courses in Seoul. Download the Ttareungi app, sign up, and you can use it immediately with a credit card.

The Yeouido–Banpo round trip is about 13 km, and even beginners can complete it in 1–2 hours.

💡 TIP: Check the official Ttareungi website for pricing and usage details.

After that, finish your picnic with Han River ramen.
You can buy ramen at convenience stores (CU, GS25, etc.), use the hot water machines, and cook it right there.
Ramen with a view of the Han River tastes completely different from eating it at home. Adding an egg is a must.

Sunset Han River picnic Seoul

Banpo Fountain Show and Photo Spots

If you visit Banpo Hangang Park, it’s best to check the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain schedule in advance.

The scale is quite large, with water spraying from both sides of Banpo Bridge, and the night performance has a completely different atmosphere with lighting added.

Between May and July, there is a timing where the sunset overlaps with the 8 PM show. If you visit at that time, you can capture both in a single photo.

Operating Hours
April–October / subject to weather conditions, check the official Seoul Hangang website before visiting

    Daytime shows: 12:00 / 14:00 / 16:00 (about 20 minutes each)Night shows: 20:00 / 21:00 / 22:00 (about 20 minutes each)

Best Sunset Photos Are from West-Facing Parks

Han River sunsets are best viewed from parks facing west. Among them, Banpo Hangang Park is especially popular—if you sit on the lawn near Banpo Bridge, you can capture the silhouette of the 63 Building overlapping with the sunset.

If you want a quieter place, Mangwon Hangang Park is also a good option. You can enjoy a wide-open sunset view toward Seongsan Bridge, and it’s less crowded.

Seonyudo Park, where the entire island is a photo spot, requires you to arrive at least one hour before sunset to secure a good spot.

💡 TIP: The golden hour is from 30 minutes before sunset to 10 minutes after. Check the sunset time on a weather app in advance.

Night Han River picnic Seoul

Enjoy the Han River Until Midnight

There’s no need to leave the Han River after sunset. Simply grabbing a can of beer from a convenience store and sitting by the river is enough, but each park has a slightly different atmosphere.

Yeouido is lively with chimaek spots and food trucks, while Banpo naturally transitions into a night drinking area after the fountain show.

If you want a quieter experience, Mangwon is better than Ttukseom.

💡 TIP: Drinking is allowed in the park, but please be mindful of noise after midnight.

If you’re lucky, you might also catch a drone show or a night concert.

Seoul regularly hosts various events along the Han River depending on the season, so checking the official SNS of the Seoul Hangang Business Headquarters can make your visit much more enjoyable.

In particular, the Seoul International Fireworks Festival held every October in Yeouido attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, so securing a spot early in the afternoon is essential.

During the day, it’s all about picnic mats and food delivery. In the evening, sunsets and fountain shows.
At night, riverside drinking.

The Han River offers completely different experiences depending on the time of day.
Even if you go empty-handed without any plans, it’s okay.

Once you find a spot, the Han River will take care of the rest.
